Escom woes continue, Blantyre Utd switch off power

Escom United poor run in the elite TNM Super League continued on Saturday when they were pruned 3-1 to much improved Blantyre United at the giant, Kamuzu Stadium in the commercial city of Malawi, Blantyre.

The electricians, who have so far played five games, are yet to register a win.

In Saturday’s encounter, Blantyre United dominated the entire 90 minutes  and reduced the Escom players into amateurs.

Osward Mawonga was hero of the day for the Blantyre City based out-fit, as he notched two  goals while the limping Electricians scored their consolation goal through former Mafco defender, Oscar
Chapitapasi, who was later shown marching orders after insulting the referee.

Escom’s loss means that they are still anchoring the log-table.

Blantyre United technical director, Lawson Nakoma described their victory as morale booster to their camp.

“We kicked-off the league on a low note, but now we are in shape and l must commend my boys for a quick recovery,” said Nakoma, while his counterpart for Escom United, Charles Manda was dejected.

“We still have a long way to go but we will catch up,” said Manda.

In another encounter visiting Bvumbwe Research were beaten 3-2 to the Salima based soldiers, Mafco FC.

At Kalulu, the Leo Mpulula boys, Azam Tigers collected maximum three points after a 2-1 victory to Epac FC.

Meanwhile, the battle for points, in the league continues on Sunday with game of the week at Kamuzu Stadium between Mighty Wanderers and Big Bullets, as Civo United hosts Bvumbwe Research at Civo Stadium in the capital city of Malawi, Lilongwe.
