Ex- minister faces ‘conspiracy to murder’ charges

Former Health Minister Dr Jean Kalilani has sought black magic from a witchdoctor in Lilongwe to kill Vice-President and Health Minister Khumbo Kachale, Minister of Justice and Attorney General Ralph Kasambara and Deputy Health Minister Halima Daudi, Nyasa Times understands.

The revelation follows the arrest on a tip-off of Chief Mputeni of Lumbadzi in Dowa who was sent on a mercenary errand accompanied by the witchdoctor to do the rituals to take the lives of the three politicians, a source has told the Nyasa Times.

Police spokesman Davie Chingwalu confirmed the arrest of the  chief “on withcraft allegations”. He however could not give more details.

Kalilani  was  on Thursday evening at Police  headquarters in Area 30 to complain over issues of some people who wanted to defraud her. One person has since been arrested over the issue , according to Chingwalu.

Kalirani: Implicated

The chief has confessed to police to have been on a task to deadly harm, the source said.

Kalilani faces arrest on charges of ‘conspiracy to murder’ after the traditional chief and the medium implicated her in the plot to murder the three cabinet ministers.

Kalilani is said to be worried that she might face charges of abuse of office and others relating to her work as Minister of Health dating back to1980’s when she was reported, together with Dr Hetherwick Ntaba, to have abused the HIV/AIDS funds and recently on funds meant to buy medicine.

She wanted to deal once and for all with Kachali, who is minister responsible for health and Daudi, his deputy.

Kasambara comes into the picture because as an anticipated shrewd Attorney General would be pushing for the legal matters in case of a case for her.

After the meeting with Chief Mputeni, Dr Kalilani asked him to go and meet Secretary for Health Willie Samute.

Sources at Capital Hill have confirmed the chief had been to Samute’s office but did not meet him.

Daudi is reported to have complained to Police after getting the tip off.

Efforts to talk to Kalilani failed as her mobile phones could not be reached.
