Ex-ministers Queen Gondwe, Kaphuka join PP

The ruling People’s Party (PP) on Monday officially welcomed former Minister of Women, Children Affairs and Community Development, Queen Gondwe and former Deputy Minister and member of parliament for Blantyre west cum business man, Samuel Kaphuka into the party.

The function took place at PP’s Headquarters at Manase, in Blantyre.

PP Provincial Chairman for the South, Ali M’balaka said he was happy with the coming of the two members into the party.

“As PP, we are happy with the coming in of these two notable and prominent politicians because they will effect change due to the vast experience they have in politics and on the other hand we would like to urge all those wishing to join to feel free as the door remains open,” said M’balaka.

On his part, PP Secretary General, Henry Chibwana, thanked the two for joining the party  attributed to the party’s leadership which he described as democratic, visionary and responsive to the people’s needs.

“We would like to thank you for making the wise decision to join this party. Fill welcomed and make this party your home. Besides that, I would like to thank the party President who is also the President of this country Madame Joyce Banda for her strategies she is using to govern this country which have eradicated the abundant problems this country had been facing in a very short time,” Chibwana said.

Chibwana also assured people who were gathered at the function most of them clad in their orange attire that the two were definitely going to change the party for the better.

“These people we are officially welcoming here today will definitely make remarkable contribution to our party because they are well experienced not only in politics but also business,” he said.

In his compliments, Samuel Kaphuka pledged to do everything possible to further strengthen the party so that it continued becoming the people’s party.

“We have come to complement what Madame Joyce Banda and the rest of you have already started so that the party continues to grow from strength to strength. I will personally use the experience I have had to take the party to greater heights,” assured Kaphuka.

In her remarks, Queen Gondwe expressed gratitude for being welcome into the party which she said is ably being led by a woman president.

“Honestly speaking I am feeling so good to be warmly welcome in this party which has a woman as its leader and I promise to work hand-in-hand with the other members I have found for the good of the PP as a party and the country as a whole,” said Gondwe.

Queen Gondwe is coming from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and besides being senior cabinet minister she was Member of Parliament for Rumphi Central and she is also one of the senior members of Jovwira Foundation for Development whereas Samuel Kaphuka was in the United Democratic Front (UDF) and is the former Member of Parliament for Blantyre West besides being the proprietor of Kaphuka Private Schools.
