Ex MYP combatants cancel vigil at OPC  after talks with Muhara

Former paramilitary wing, the Malawi Young Pioneers  (MYP) members have cancelled a scheduled vigil at the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) from Wednesday.

EX- MYP members

Grey Chisale,  National Coordinator for the ex MYP members said on Tuesday the cancellation of the vigil follows a succesful meeting the members had with secretary to OPC Lloyd Muhara on Tuesday.

“He has assured us that we will get our money in February. Actually he has told us to see him again next week to confirm this,” he said.

He said Muhara had contacted Treasury to release the K680 million for compensation of the ex MYPs who were forcebly disarmed by Malawi Army soldiers in 1993.

“This is a huge pay out which cannot be done anyhow,  this is why there are these delays,” he said.

Muhara could not be reached for comment.
