Excitement grips Malawians as Giddes and team kickstart US tour of shows: 3rd Eye, Maskal join the fun

As pictures of the old man and his team’s arrival in Washington DC began to circulate on social media, the nay sayers who had doubted that this trip woud ever take place were put to shame as they crawled back under their rocks and the celebration of a dream becoming reality continued.

For a person who is very new to the social networking platform Facebook, the kind of buzz that accousting musician Giddes Chalamdanda  is creating is unprecedented for a Malawian artist. It is apparent that the realisation of this lifelong dream is a great source of inspiration for many

Media personality Agness Dumisani Minzere  wrote on her Facebook  page: “Giddes Chalamanda – Napolo is what I’m listening to as this elderly Malawian man fulfills a dream of seeing America”

A Giddes fan Noel George Kanyesi commented:  “Nzoonadi kuti mawu amalenga….. Che Giddes Chalamanda once sang ‘if I had much money, I would go to America.’ Tikunena pano Che Gide is in transit to Obamaland….muyende bwino Che Giddes Chalamanda from Mazuwa Vilage, Chiradzulu….zubweradi mochedwa; kutipeza titakula kale!”

Another Giddes fan, Abiti William Manice, based in the US wrote on her  Facebook page:  “Giddes Chalamanda ‘Dreams come true’  has made me  have the ability to visualize my dreams in order to achieve them. I have learnt a bigger lesson from his USA trip!

“As humans, without a solid plan and visualization, our goals become a daydream! Day dreams may be entertaining but they rarely produce long lasting results. When most of us daydream, we jump immediately to the goals in life; e.g. dreaming of the big mansion but, not thinking, “If I work hard I will be able to afford this home one day, or dreaming of being the Director of a certain organisation, but not making any effort to study and get the necessary degrees. “

Television personality now turned political science scholar Fatima Nkata who is also based in the US wrote this on Facebook: “A dream that we dream together becomes reality!! I’m totally  thrilled that Giddes Chalamanda’s  dream has finally  become a reality. He is on his way to the #UnitedStatesOfAmerica on the #GidessChalamandaComingToAmericaTour. I’m extra thrilled that after a year in hiatus, I will be MCing at the Washington DC event! This is history in the making and I’m honored to be a small part of it! ”

Giddes Chalamanda is 85 years old but made his dreams come true!

The excitement over this historical trip has extended to other Malawian artists who are also currently in the US and have pledged to support team Giddes during their shows. Among them is Maskal and 3rd Eye who will both be performing at the Washington DC show on Saturday 2nd July.

Also on the lineup  for the DC event is the highly talented children’s band Lost Our Sanity.

After the DC show, Giddes and Team will be performing at the Library of Congress on the 5th of July before they head to South Bend Indiana for a performance on July 9th.
