FA Malawi faulted for partisan politics: Sponsored Mutharika’s live MBC broadcast

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has come under fire for sponsoring President Peter Mutharika’s live broadcast on taxpayer-funded MBC television and Radio One the nomination papers presentation to Malawi Electoral Commission at Comesa Hall in Blantyre on Friday.

Mvula: FAM should be apolitical

FAM funded the live broadcast in disguise to advertise the Rough Diamonds tournament held last weekend at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Political analyst and former football administrator Humphrey Mvula said FAM should stay away from politics and said the Walter Nyamilandu led association is “guilty of partisan politics.”

Mvula said FAM should “always remain apolitical and colourless.”

In quotes reported by the local press, Mvula said FAM should accept “that they goofed.”

He said: “It is ironic for FAM using club’s gate collections and funds a political party’s event yet FIFA doesn’t allow politics in football as it is against Fifa statues.”

FAM commercial and marketing director Limbani Matola said they wanted to capture “maximum audience, attention and feedback” by advertising on ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate.

The Director should resign. This is political and partisan. If he wanted to capture a wider audience he should have done the same for other parties.

FAM & SPORTS COUNCIL ARE FULL OF BOOTLICKERS,IF IT WAS ABOUT CAPTURING MAXIMUM AUDIENCE ATTENTION AND FEEDBACK WHY NOT USE TIMES & ZODIAK WHO COVERED FROM MONDAY TO FRIDAY? MIND YOU. MALAWIANS DON’T WATCH MBC TV BECAUSE IT’S BIASED.FAM EXCUTIVE SHOULD RESIGN.THE SAME APPLIES TO SPORTS COUNCIL.SOURCING MONEY FOR AWARDS AND YET YOU FAIL TO SOURCE MONEY FOR RENOVATING BAT GROUND.KUNGOFUNA PODYERA BASI.PRIOTISE THINGS FIRST.WE ARE TIRED OF BOOTLICKERS.

It just shows you don’t understand the situation. Why compare Mvula (an individual) with FAM (an institution)? Kupepela

This must be reported to the World Football body so they FAM should be disciplined. If FAM officials have political ambitions should leave the body and join politics. Who were they trying to please- a bunch of failures.
