Fake Flames replica jerseys with Ugandan emblem in Malawi markets
Investigations by Nyasa Times in Kasungu district have uncovered an influx of face Flames replica jerseys in the district.
This comes at a time when the country’s football governing body – FAM is continuously mourning for the inadequate funding from the the government and yet it could realise some revenue from the sale of original replica jerseys.
A snap check in the district revealed that the fake replica jersey which are being sold in the Indians and Asian shops at a price K700.
The jerseys with a Ugandan football federation logo are printed Malawi on the front whilst at the back are written ‘Cranes’ a nickname for Uganda National football team.
According to one of the people who Nyasa Times spoke to, John Phiri his decision to buy the jersey came about because of the love he has for the Flames.
Phiri comes from Kayesa Village, Traditional Authority Mwase in the district.
“One of them is red and the other one blue. I use the blue one for away games while the red one for home games,” he said.
Ironically, the Flames have never used a blue jersey in any of their matches.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Chief Executive Officer Sugzo Nyirenda told the local media that proper action will be taken after investigations.
