FAM says Flames KO will affect replica jersey sales

The Football Association of Malawi FAM has conceded that Flames failure to qualify for the 2012 African cup of nations finals will negatively affect the sale of the team’s replica jerseys launched last month.

The tem drew 2 – 2 away to Chad to give Tunisia a place at the finals in a game that the flames needed nothing short of victory.

Fame’s commercial manager Casper Jangale told reporters on Monday that the team’s shattered qualification dream will have a huge bearing on the jerseys that were launched in style in Blantyre.

“There was excitement on the sales of the jerseys because everyone thought and believed that the Flames will qualify for the finals and others even bought the jerseys on the day the Flames were playing Chad but now, it will be difficult to market the jerseys,” he said.

Jangale: It will be hard to sell jerseys

Jangale said a lot of people complained that the jerseys were very expensive at K9, 000 and with the team’s failure it will even be harder to sale.

He however appealed to Malawians to be more patriotic and buy the jerseys saying the Flames still have a lot of games coming up next year and will need support.

Malawi with only a minute to go before a dream back-to-back qualification for the continent’s biggest football showpiece allowed Chad to equalize to break Malawians hearts once again.
