FAM yet to honour K100 000 pledge to Malawi stars
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) is yet to honour a K100 000 each pledge to Flames players that were in a squad that beat Benin last weekend.
The development comes two days after FAM’s chief executive officer Sugzo Nyirenda told the local media that the country’s football body had already deposited the monies into the players bank accounts.
“We don’t believe in giving them cash but deposit the money into their account, which I can say we have done that,” said Nyirenda.
Speaking on condition of anonymity to Nyasa Times, one of the players said as of close of business on Thursday, there was no any transaction
into his bank account to show that the money were indeed deposited.
“For the past four days, they have been changing dates when we will have the money. It seems like someone somewhere is not telling us the truth,” said the player, a statement which was collaborated by two others.
After beating Benin, the Flames qualified for the group stages of 2015 AFCON qualification.
Meanwhile, their sisters from the Malawi Queens, have already pocketed K200 000 each, a donation from their sponsor Airtel Malawi for their exploits at the Commonwealth games.
