Fatal accident claims a boy’s life in Phalombe

A nine-year old boy has died after being hit by a vehicle in Phalombe district on Saturday afternoon, police have confirmed.

The deceased identified as David Goodwin was pronounced dead upon arrival at Phalombe Health Centre after being hit by a vehicle at Kamwendo Trading Centre in Mulanje district.

According to Phalombe police Public Relations Officer, Augustus Nkhwazi, the deceased was hit by Nissan Blue Bird Salon registration number KK1352 as he was crossing the road.

“The vehicle was driven by Mr. Kennedy Kwelani, 34, of Nyambalo village T/A Mkhumba in Phalombe who works with Central East African Railways (CEAR) in Limbe. At the time of the accident he was driving from Miseu four towards Chiradzulu along Migowi-Chiradzulu road,” explained Nkhwazi.

“Due to the impact of the accident, the nine-year old boy sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Phalombe Health Centre.”

Postmortem result indicated cause of death was Hypoxia.

Kwelani is expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of causing death by reckless driving.

Goodwin hailed from Pepani village T/A Mkanda in Mulanje district.

Why is it that whenever a vehicle hit a person to death, a driver always answers a charge of reckless driving ? May the young boy’s soul rest in peace.
