Fatal accident claims one life in Ntcheu

One female passenger has died and seven others escaped with injuries when an ox-cat they were traveling in was hit by a Scania Lorry last night at Chinsonthe village along Salima- Balaka M5 road.

The lorry registration number BLK 3212 was driven by Jackson Chidima 40, and it was heading to Balaka from Salima direction, police have said.

Ntcheu police Public Relations Officer, Hastings Chigalu said the occurred at around 7pm.

“Upon reaching Chinsonthe village, the lorry hit an Ox-Cat that had eight passengers on board and was heading same direction- Balaka,” explained Chigalu.

One female passenger namely Beti Sumaisi of Lazaro village Traditional Authority Makwangwala, Ntcheu, died on spot due to head injuries and broken chest.

“The driver was not injured, but the vehicle’s front part was slightly damaged. Those injured were taken to Balaka District Hospital for medical attention and the deceased’s body has been ferried to her home.”

Meanwhile, Police is reminding all road users to observe traffic regulations at all times most especially at night.
