FD Communications has contributed K200,000 towards the event.

SWAM, an affiliate of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS), will commemorate the WSJD with an AGM aimed to chart its future. Other activities to mark the occasion from August 4-5 include beach sports, music and poetry at the Salima Lake Malawi beach resort.

FD Communications Director of PR and New Media, Frank Phiri said the company is proud of its long-term association with SWAM and the sports journalism fraternity in the country.

“This contribution is our gesture of appreciation for the long-term strategic partnership that we have with sports media. We are proud to be associated with the progress that SWAM has made in recent years to develop sports journalism, which is a specialized field of journalism. As FD Comms, we look forward to learning a lot from the current growth and development of sports media in Malawi,” he said.

Responding to the gesture, SWAM President and TIMES Media Group Sports Editor Peter Kanjere said it demonstrates the passion that FD Communications has in the work of sports journalists in Malawi.

“It’s not about the monetary value, but the passion for sports media that FD Communications has and which I hope other well wishers may wish to learn from. As SWAM, we are still looking for more resources to enable us hold a successful AGM and WSJD and the contribution from FD is therefore very timely,” he said.

WSJD falls on July 2 every year and was established by AIPS in 1994. AIPS is a partner of major world sporting bodies for football (FIFA), athletics, boxing, wrestling, netball, basketball, ski and judo, among others.
