Two students were evacuated to hospital for treatment following a fire outbreak at the hostel for male students at Soche Technical College in the commercial city of Blantyre
The fire which started in the morning at around 7: am and its cause is yet to be established, destroyed the students’ property in the process.
“The fire extinguishers at the hostel were empty at the time of the fire incident,” an eye witness who spoke to Nyasa Times said.
Most of the students were not inside the building when the fire started or there would have been serious fatalities.
But two students who were sleeping in the hostel while the fire was raging fainted as a result of smoke and were rushed to the hospital.
