Fire guts Malawi main airport shuttle bus
Fire has gutted a shuttle bus belonging to the State owned Lilongwe Handling Company(LIHACO) at the Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe.

The incident happened Wednesday at around 8 o’clock in the evening.
Senior officials, at Lilongwe Handling Company, have confirmed about the incident .
There have been no reports of any injuries. All passengers and their luggage were quickly transferred to a replacement bus.
According to Nyasa Times sources, who did not want to be named because they are not official spokespersons of the company, the bus caught fire when the driver wanted to pick passengers from the private plane.
“But after noticing the strange smell , the driver sped off from the apron, to check, this is when he saw smoke engulfing the bus,” said our source.
According to the information that we have, the two buses which Lilongwe Handling company was using were old.
The buses were bought in 2002.Currently the board on Monday had a meeting where they resolved to dispose off the buses and buy the new ones.

Funny thing I always thought the busses were useless, its actually easier just to walk too and from the airplane. The bus air-conditioning never worked, the buses were never maintained properly. The VIP bus power steering has broken and can’t find spares as it was a Chinese bus. The buses are a waste of time, rather cut the airport tax and don’t replace the buses. 99% of people can walk 200m to an airplane.

yachita bwino ma bus amenewa anatha kwambiri….ndinayatsa ndine
Forget about portable fire extinguishers, where were the fire engines? Seriously, we cant put out fire on 100 foot bus right there at the terminals, how on earth are gonna fight a fire on a burning 737 on the run way? Wake up call.
Pepani a LIHACO
This calls one question to be answered: Does the airport have FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, and HOW RELIABLE is their service
True, if they failed to control the fire ku bus, can they be able to control if a place catches fire? Scary!
