First round leader to be determined this weekend: Malawi TNM Super League
Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles tie on 29 points from 14 games but the Bankers are at the top following their better goal difference but come Sunday, the leader of the first round will be properly defined when the two conclude their last assignment over the weekend.
The Bankers conclude their first round assignments when they travel to the sugar plantations of Dwangwa in Nkhotakota where they will meet Salima-based Mafco FC at Chitowe Stadium on Saturday while second-placed Blue Eagles will be hosting 13th-placed Wizards FC at Nankhaka on Wednesday August 10.
If both win, they will still tie on points but goal difference will decided. At the moments Silver have a goal difference of 12 while the Cops have eight.
The Bankers have scored 22 goals and conceded 10 while the Eagles netted in 23 and conceded 15.
Mafco, who are on 4th position, can go back to third place if they managed to beat Silver on Saturday. Mafco have 25 points while Moyale are third with 27 points but the Mzuzu-based soldiers completed their first round assignments last weekend.
Meanwhile, Mighty Be Forward Wanderers — who beat visiting Lilongwe-based Kamuzu Barracks 2-1 at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday to move from position nine to seven — have the chance to move further up if they win their remaining two fixtures of the first round against Epac at Civo Stadium on Saturday and against 5th-placed Mzuni at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday, August 14.
The same goes for Nyasa Big Bullets, who tie on 23 points with Wanderers but are on 6th because of goal difference. The Bullets have a goal difference of 10 having scored 19 against 9 while Wanderers have nine having scored 22 and conceded 13.
The Bullets last fixtures of the first round are against 9th-placed Azam Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday and away to bottom of the table (15th) Dwangwa at Chitowe on August 14.
All the games involving Bullets and Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium will be beamed live by Beta Television.
Leading the goal scoring chart is Mafco’s Richard Mbulu on 10 goals with Chiukepo Msowoya of Nyasa Big Bullets and Peter Wadabwa of Mighty Be Forward Wanderers coming hot on his heels with nine goals while on seven goals are Manasseh Chiyesa (Kamuzu Barracks), Anthony Banda (Epac FC) and Kuda Muyaba (Moyale)
Gilbert Chirwa of Blue Eagles has scored six goals while on five goals are Moses Nankumba (Red Lions), Maxwell Salambula (Blue Eagles), Matthews Sibale (Silver Strikers), Gastin Simkonda (Moyale FC) and Nelson Kangunje (Civo United).
