FISD wants Wizards club relocate to Lilongwe as clubs make advances on its players

Fisd (Foundation for Irrigation and Sustainable Development), the sponsors of Wizards football club and club Executive Committee have finally spoken out on the future of the club interms of sponsorship after it was confirmed that the team will return to the lower league next season after they were eliminated from the top flight TNM Super League.

A representative of the sponsors Frank Mwenechanya said recently that the sponsors were happy that the team played excellent and entertaining football throughout the season despite being relegated and that they managed to finish all their games.

But Mwenechanya revealed that one of the conditions for continued sponsorship before the season started was that the team remain in the top flight league.

He further said the sponsors were still discussing whether the company will benefit business wise in sponsoring a team from the lower league.

But in a twist of events, Fisd Wizard Club Chairman Mike Tembo claimed the sponsors have shown interest to continue sponsoring the team on given conditions.

Nyasa Times understands that one of the conditions is that the Blantyre based club relocate to Lilongwe where the company head office is based.

Tembo said the club officials are yet to meet to map the way forward in which among other things, the team will require to have its own training ground which according to unconfirmed reports, the sponsors say they are ready to build a stadium for the team.

“We still have to meet as Executive to draw our conditions. We are also working at looking at who are the beneficiaries (on relocating from Blantyre to Lilongwe) and then we can be able to make a decision” said Tembo.

Player transfer
After being relegated, some top TNM Super League, clubs including defending champions Big Bullets and Silver Strikers have already shown interest to sign a couple of Fisd Wizard players.

According to Nyasa Times investigations, the two sides are equally chasing the same players namely Brighton Munthali, Levison Masamba and Rafiq Namwera.

Wizards general secretary Ophman Kondowe confirmed the interest from all the three teams.

“Officially we have only been approached by Bullets who have expressed interest in Brightone , Maganizo and Rafiq Namwera.
“Wanderers also made enquiries on Brightone, Maganizo and Ernest Tambe, but it was verbal and in absence of official communication, I cannot say anything,” said Kondowe.

He said the team’s management is yet to meet and discuss.

Wizards players are graduates from Surestream Academy where they spent two years being groomed.

Fisd Wizard has been relegated along side Airbourne Rangers and Dedza Young Soccer.

Peter Mponda if you own Wizard FC then dont let a sponsor change the base of your team. If they insist then have a clause in contract to help fund the rerelocation to BT in the event of them dumping you. You see your team has got a massive following in BT with some pundits ranking it 3rd to Bullets and Wanderers which is healthy if we are thinking of going commercial. This support was hard earned due to your excellent football your team played in Southern Region Premier League thus when you go to LL you’ll be like starting… Read more »

Do not think Lilongwe is cheap competition. Civo and silver si ma team a masewera. Plus dedza and Marco. Big competition. In ant case you will be in lower league.
