Flames leave Monday for Morocco tournament
Malawi national football team leave on Monday to participate at a six-nations tournament in Morocco.
Malawi will face Mauritania and Togo and could play more games should they do well in the two games.
Other teams invited by hosts Morocco, are Niger and Kenya.
Meanwhile Malawi national football team coach Ronny Van Geneugden has named the squad for the tournament with the inclusion of professional players.
But there is no place for the current TNM Super League leaders Silver Strikers while their rivals Civil Sporting Club have contributed new faces in defender Gomezgani Chirwa , wingers Righteous Banda and Fletcher Bandawe.
Wanderers midfielder Yamikani Chester is also missing through a toe injury.
The coach has named nine foreign based players goalkeeper Charles Swini, defender Limbikani Mzava, midfielders Robert Ng’ambi, Gerald Phiri Jr, Dalitso Sailesi, John Banda, Frank Banda, strikers; Richard Mbulu and Gabadinho Mhango.
John Banda is captain of Mozambique club Ferroviario Nampura confirmed that he would be available for the games.
“I am ready and will travel with the team to Morocco on Monday. I am grateful that I have made the cut and will do my best to help the team do well,” he said.
The following is the full squad: Goalkeepers; Swini, Ernest Kakhobwe, defenders; Peter Cholopi, Denis Chembezi, Mzava, Stanley Sanudi, Gomezgani Chirwa, Yamikani Fodya. Midfielders; Righteous Banda, Simion Singa, Ng’ambi, Sailesi, Frank Banda, John Banda, Phiri Jr, Chikoti Chirwa, strikers; Mbulu, Bandawe, Jabulani Linje, Gabadinho Mhango.
