Forget about ruling Malawi again, Msonda tells MCP
Outspoken politician Kenneth Msonda, who is also a Member of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) will never rule Malawi again.
Msonda was speaking in Ndirande-Makata ward in Blantyre during the official launch of the party’s campaign for the forthcoming by-election slated for October 17, 2017.
“The opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) should forget about ruling this country again. Memories are still fresh on how the party mistreated its innocent citizens during their one party regime,
“From 1994 to 2014 general elections, we have seen MCP performing miserably. That is a clear indication that the party has lost ground and will never be voted back into government,” said Msonda.
Taking his turn, DPP’s Southern Region Governor, Charles Mchacha asked scholars and historians in the country to publish many books on atrocities MCP committed during 31 years of its rule.
“We have many kids now who were born after MCP was voted out of government and as such they don’t know how the party ruled Malawi. I am therefore appealing to Chancellor College scholars and historians to write many books on atrocities MCP committed,” said Mchacha.
He said the books would enable the current generation to make wise and informed decision on which party to vote for during elections.
MCP ruled Malawi with an iron fist from 1964 to 1993. It was ousted from government by United Democratic Front (UDF) in the multiparty elections held in 1994.

Malawians can run out of patience but changing government will be very difficult. You see, the problem is that we vote on regional lines. A man from Nkando even if he is tortured to the maximum will never opt for Chakwera/MCP to rule. He would rather like APM rule while he is sleeping with hunger than live in Malawi with Chakwera on the top seat. It was the same in 1993 during referendum and 1994 during the first multiparty elections. Despite all evidence about MCP atrocities there were people who still wanted Kamuzu to continue ruling us. So people in the south or any place where DPP is dominant never expect they will turn against APM and vote for Chakwera. When Msonda says MCP will never rule he is not far from the truth. Malawi has conducted 5 elections and in these elections MCP participated in all but could not win. If it failed in the first 2 elections and win the third (2004) at least we would say the party is loved by people. But the party is out of government for 23 years and has no winning formular yet its leaders are going around telling people that they will go into government, how? Winning a bye-election in your stronghold is not an indication that you can win a presidential race. How much support does Chakwera have in the south? How much does APM have in the center? You will agree with me that Chakwera cannot claim to have support in any district in the south while DPP can claim support in NKK, Ntcheu, Salima, and even parts of Lilongwe. The party have MPs in some of these central region districts. You cannot win elections with votes from one region. And if we asses properly we will discover that defections to DPP are more than those to MCP. Msonda is saying the truth whether one likes it or not. You can win a bye-election in your area but not the presidency. You don’t have numbers Mr Chakwera.
Who Is MCP? It is a party that ruled during a one party era of which all the adults in that time, we were part & parcel. Atrocities were not committed by only the executive members. The members from the District, Area & branch were all in the wrong of whom most of them are today the members of either DPP, PP, UDF or AFORD so I don’t know exactly who is a holy cow in Malawi? I’m not a sympathiser of Malawi Congress Party but can we say that things are better now than during MCP rule? The answer will always vary depending on which part of the political divide one belongs. I remember at ZOCASS ( Box 2) we had the likes of the Kadzamiras learning there just proving how good the quality of education was in Schools. Today tell me where do the kids of the ruling elite go? MCP will one day surprise people by coming back to power cos people are running out of patience now.

The problem with recycled politicians is that you waste your time talking of other parties. Thats why your parties are failures in all sectors. All parties have commited atrocities in MALAWI including the PANGA party DPP. Stealing money is a big atrocity and this is still happening in DPP, the same DPP has killed Malawians e.g Chasowa, who doesnt know this and the list is endless. Do you really need scholars to write such books? History is already there and Muluzi exposed all this during the time when he campaigned for Bingu. People will not vote along these lines anymore.Whilst people may vote on regional lines, I think their focus besides this will focus on issues that affect their direct everyday lives such as: economy ( low selling prices of agri-commodities, business opportunities for the Youth and women with available capital, availability of electricity 24/7 tor small businesses such as welders, maize mills, hair dressers etc.), improved standard of education, improved health facilities, availability of subsidized fertilizer to many and removal of bribes on the same, rural development such as well graded roads mainly in the villages where vehicles such as ambulances are straggling to reach etc.
Please, channel your strategies into these areas and ensure people see such improvements.

As an educated fellow, Msonda should have known that MCP and its atrocities is becoming irrelevant each passing elections. We 100% agree that MCP killed us, but mind you, voters in 2019 will comprise those as young as 2001s who don’t care whether we were fed to crocodiles unless directly affected

How stupid Msonda and Mchacha are by cheating the people and themselves that DPP is doing a great job. So that was the whole agenda of the rally to tell Malawians that MCP will not rule this country again. Please tell us issues of substance how as a nation we can bell out ourselves of poverty, hunger,disease, ignorance, corruption etc.. As a youth I will indeed make a wise decision when voting between a reformed MCP that used to kill people 30 years ago and a party that is killing people and stealing public money today.
