Four arrested for murder of club security guard

Malawi Police Services have arrested four men for assaulting and killing a security guard who was working for Al Pasinos Club in Nyambadwe, commercial city  Blantyre.

The four are Zain Philip 23 years old, Murrad Philip 28 both hail from Nkululira village T/A Nthilamanja in Mulanje,. The others are Almetan Mussa 17 years old of Malemya village T/A Mgabu, Chikhwawa and Dan Kumilamba of 24 years old and hails from Alasara village T/A Makawagwala in Ntcheu.

According to Blantyre Police assistant Public Relations Officer, Lameck Thembachako, the four killed the guard, Bernard Eliasi 44 years old who  hailed from Kaka village, T/A Mulumbe in Zomba on August 20 this year.

Thembachako said Eliasi was assaulted, resulting into his death when he tried to stop a fight between Zain and Murrad Philip, who were causing disorder among fun-seekers at the club.

“The Philip brothers are said to have started a quarrel and then ending up into a fight. The situation went worse as they started hitting other customers’ vehicles. This prompted Mr. Eliasi who was a guard on duty that time to intervene with a motive to calm the situation. However, two started beating him instead and were joined by their two colleagues,” Thembachako said.

The four beat Eliasi with baton sticks, seriously head injuring him before was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where he was admitted.

“According to information, the incident happened around 23 hours on August 20. The guard was rushed to the hospital but died three hours later after he started receiving treatment. We arrested three of the suspects on the same day and the other one, Dan Kumilamba who was on run, was arrested on Wednesday,” he added.

Postmortem report, Thembachako said revealed that Eliasi died due to serious extensive skull fracture and head injuries.

The four are currently in Police custody and are expected to appear in court on Monday to answer charges of murder.
