Four candidates to go unopposed at Super League of Malawi polls

As the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) polls draw closer, Nyasa Times has established that four people who currently hold different position in the current committee will return their seats without challengers.

This follows the release of final list of candidates vying for different positions at the Sullom Annual Gneral Meeting slatted for 14th March, 2015 at the Livingstonia Beach Hotel in the Lakeshore district of Salima.

In an email response to Nyasa Times on Monday by the incumbent Sulom Treasurer Tiya Somba Banda , the incumbent President Innocent Goodluck Bottomani is among the candidates that will go unopposed following the withdrawal of his challenger Daud Mtanthiko.

Others who are going into polls without opposition include Treasure Tiya Somba Banda, Legal Advisor Gilbert Mitawa and Vice General Secretary Thoko Chazema.

Stiff competition is expected on the position of Vice President contested by Gift Mkandawire, Gregory Madeya and Daud Suleman.

The reigning General Secretary Williams Banda is being challenged by Silver Strikers General Secretary Mike Tembo..

Tiya Somba Banda, who will also go unopposed, confirmed  that the February 28 submission of nomination papers for candidates had closed.

“We have received a number of nominations for the Sulom polls, one nomination for the position of President Innocent Bottomani, two nominations for the position of General Secretary Mike Tembo and Williams Banda, one nomination for the position of Vice-General Captain Thoko Chazama, one nomination for the position of Treasurer Tiya Somba Banda, one nomination for the position of Legal Advisor Captain Gilbert Mitaye three nominations for the position for vice-President , Gift Mkandawire and Gift Madeya and Daud Suleman,” he said.

But the positions of executive members have attracted 13 candidates geared to be in the committee.

“We have 13 nominations for the positions of executive member, Nelson Ngalonde, Alfred Lungu, Lt Col Mwase, Godfrey Makalani, Owen Munthali, Willy Phalula, Captain Gondwe, Charles Mwanyungwa, Agrey Khonje, Gowa Banda, Geofrey Tamu Tamu and Willie Josiah,” he said.#

He the list of nominated candidates would be forwarded to Football Association of Malawi ahead of the March 14 elections to be held in Salima.

I Go For Mike Tembo As Gs, WHY?? The Past Season William Ws Driven Too Much By A Bunch Of Vendors,which Reduced Him To A Figure Head. He Completely Failed To Control Himself.

More About Committee members. Iam Happy That Some Want To Bounce Back,but Have They Delivered? That’s what is wrong with elections in Malawi. Too much deal making allows mediocrre candidates to stay in position. I have nothing against the current president Botomani, but it would have been better if there was some sort of challenge against him..

Innocent Botoman has been visionary while at the helm of Sulom and I am so happy that he is going into the Polls unopposited.Bravo Innocent and continue the good work.As for the GS I think Mike Tembo is the Best. Banda is a slow thinker please replace the GS
