Freshwater Group of Companies to assess Malawi’s investment opportunities

Executive team of the Freshwater Groups of Companies, a multinational corporation, will visit Malawi from 3 to the 9th of December 2013 to assess various investment opportunities available in the country.

According to the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC), Freshwater’s executive team’s visit is aimed at looking projects in the field of energy, infrastructure, finance and tourism.

In a statement issued Wednesday, MITC says apart from holding discussions with government ministries, departments and all relevant stakeholders in such sectors, the company welcomes impactful projects for their investment consideration from the local private sector that will have a positive bearing on Malawi’s strategic positioning in the region in terms of export-orientation, import substitution, value addition, employment creation, among others.

“Freshwater is also involved in various charitable works through-out the world. The Chief Executive Officer of the Group, Mr R. Rach says that one of Freshwater’s core decisions is that from any profits derived in a particular location we donate 10 percent of these profits to charitable causes,” reads the statement in part.

MITC say Freshwater’s objective is to bring impact investment into Malawi and contribute significantly to Malawi private sector capacity that would enable it become an export-oriented production hub, rather than the net importer that Malawi is currently is.

“To this end, the company would consider working with private sector entities that have similar objectives in mind.”

Freshwater Groups of Companies is a globally active privately owned conglomerate with a broad range of investments and divisions covering energy, infrastructure, finance, commodities, real estate and tourism.
