General tells Malawi army soldiers not to engage in politics: 785 new recruits, 185 females

Commander of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) General Peter Namathanga has told his soldiers not to engage in politics as the country is gearing for a highly contested court sanctioned presidential  fresh election.

New recruited soldiers

Namathanga has made the advice on Thursday in Lilongwe as MDF graduated 785 soldiers at Malawi Armed Forces College (Mafco) in Salima.

“I am aware of current political environment in the country and comments made against us but the MDF mandate is clear in the Malawi Constitution,” he said.

He therefore said as commander of MDF, he would not allow the soldiers to engage in politics, advising them to leave politics out of their profession.

The General  also asked the soldiers to be disciplined all the time as they had always been.

Deputy defence minister Chipiliro Mpinganjira says the government will continue recruiting soldiers as way of reducing youth unemployment in the country.

Out of the 785 graduates, 183 are females.

Former MDF commander Vincent Nundwe also attended the colourful graduation ceremony.

Good advice from the Commander of the Defense Force to recruits NOT to ENGAGE in POLITICS. Hope the Commander follows this advice when Supreme Court Orders removal of a illegitimate President who has NOT BEEN DULY ELECTED for more than A YEAR who has frustrated NEW Elections that Must Be Held by June 24th and sworn in by July 3rd. May the Parliment and MEC within the NEXT TWO WEEKS set a date (the 4th) and ensure all Ballots are delivered by June 20th Latest to AVOID a CONSTITUIONAL Crisis and seeing a Former President forcefully removed from State House… Read more »

Under you Mr Namathanga, the army has become DDP defence force. And thanks to God that you were elevated late after our fight for justice was over, otherwise those panga wilding cadets would have had all the freedom to hack whoever they wanted under your full watch as your fellow DPP police were doing. And thank God again because after elections you know boss what will happen, re structuring of the army, bringing Nundwe back!!!!!
