Ghana leads Malawi 1-0 at half time: Updates

Malawi chances of qualifying for 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers took a big knock in the return game against Ghana when the visitors on Saturday took an early lead inside three minutes.

Asamoah Gyan’s free-kick was saved for a corner. From the resulting set-play, Afriyie Acquah fired home the opener beating Simplex Nthara in goals.

It’s a devastating blow for Malawi, who now need to score four unanswered goals to avoid going out.

Ghana looked comfortable as t’s a tall order for Malawi to get themselves back into this one.

It really would be the mother, father, grandmother and grandfather of all comebacks now.

Just before the interval Ghana’s Andre ‘Dede’ Ayew fired a free-kick straight at the keeper. And when the whistle goes Ghana walked off in the knowledge that they are just 45 minutes from qualifying for next year’s tournament in South Africa.

Malawi coach Kinnah Phiri’s team-talk would have to be epic, to say the least, if they are to come out and turn this around.

Second half to follow….
