Girl gang raped, boy friend hacked to death
Three unidentified thugs have brutally murdered a 23-year-old man and in the process gang raped his girlfriend at a park in Blantyre.
Police say the two lovebirds met their fate around after 5.00pm Tuesday as they were chatting at Sunnyside Park in the city.
The deceased has been identified as Victor Kokoma of Machinjiri Township in the city while particulars of his 18-year-old lover have deliberately been concealed.
Blantyre Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Lameck Thembachako said preliminary investigations show that Kokoma was hacked to death with machetes.
“At around 7 o’clock in the evening of January 17, Victor and his girlfriend were chatting in Sunnyside Park when unknown criminals armed with panga knives attacked them,” said Thembachako.
He explained that the criminals ordered the two to sit down and surrender their phones but the man resisted.
“The girl complied while the boy resisted, this infuriated them and they begun hacking him with their weapons. Kokoma died on the spot,” he said.
After they were done with him, the thugs are reported to have turned on the girl, gang raping her before fleeing from the scene.
The police spokesperson said no arrests have been made so far but a massive man-hunt has been mounted to bring to book the assailants.
Meanwhile, the girl is admitted to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
The victimized girl is likely to have been put on Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) treatment, a medication given to people who have been exposed to HIV within a period of 72hours to kill the virus before it multiplies.
