Go ye register to vote: Says Zomba Catholic Bishop Msusa

The Zomba Catholic Diocese Bishop, the Right Reverend Thomas Msusa says it is everybody’s right to register ahead of the 2014 Tripartite Elections and vote for a candidate of their choice.

The Bishop was speaking after registering his name at Sacred Heart registration centre in Zomba and eventually led by example in the Phase Four of the registration process which started on September 11 in Zomba, Balaka, Machinga and the remaining two constituencies in Phalombe.

He therefore urged the Christian community to exercise their right by going to register irrespective of the denomination.

“In a democratic setting, this is always the trend. I have been saying this time and again in church that everybody has a right to exercise his or her right to vote in the 2014 Elections. By registering, one will be assured of voting for a president, ward councilor and Member of Parliament of his or her choice,” he said.

Adds the Bishop: “It is more interesting to see that the youth have taken it upon themselves to come and register. This is more encouraging and it shows that they are also exercising their right to vote for their rightful candidate in next year’s elections.

On Wednesday last week, Malawi President Joyce Banda also led the people of Zomba-Malosa to register ahead of the 2014 electoral polls.
