Gondwe beats Mwakhwawa to win Veg-Delight ball pool golf

Gift Gondwe on Wednesday put up an impressive display to beat 29 other golfers to win Veg-Delight Restaurant 2017 Ball Pool played at Blantyre Sports Club.

Lawyer and golfer John Gift Mwakhwawa settled for a second position although he equaled Gondwe’s points but was outclassed on the potential ability.

Gondwe scored 21 points (counted in) while Mwakhwawa hit 21 points (counted out).

About 31 golfers turned up for the Ball Pool but there was no ladies’ play.

As champion, Gondwe bagged in a trophy from Veg-Delight. Robert Coombes settled for a second runner up.

 “I was persistent. I trained well and was very composed during the game which I think made a difference. I commend fellow golfers for putting up such a fight,” said Gondwe.

“I am delighted to be first to win Veg-Delight Ball Pool in 2017. Despite the weather affecting our plays this period, I think as golfers we need not to give in to weather.”

Veg-Delight proprietor, Makhecha Tarang said the Ball Pool was one way of giving back and recognizing the support golfers give to his company.

“As a golfer myself, we regard ourselves- golfers- as family. It is the very same golfers who are customers of Veg-Delight and as one way of appreciating their support, we decided to sponsor this Ball Pool,” explained Tarang.

He pledged to make their golf sponsorship regular.

Captain for Blantyre Sports Club men’s Golf team, Sam Mwale said they did not take Veg-Delight sponsorship for granted.

“We started discussing about this sponsorship last year and now it has been fulfilled. Last week we failed to play due to rains but today the weather was favorable,” said Mwale.

Veg-Delight Restaurant is a vegetarian eatery situated in Blantyre town which boosts of supporting local farmers as it serves food from local farm produce.
