Govt appoints board members for MRA, Reserve Bank of Malawi
Government has on Tuesday appointed new board members for Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) and Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).
This is barely three weeks after President Lazarus Chakwera dissolved boards for over 60 parastatals.
The appointed members are all professionals.
In a statement signed by Chief Secretary to Government Zanga-Zanga Chikhosi, the appointments are with immediate effect.
Government has appointed financial expert Nico Holdings plc group managing director Vizenge Matumika Kumwenda, as Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) board chairperson with Lincon Bailey—a mining entrepreneur with Jamaican roots, Charles Thokozani Kuyokwa and Henry Harris Chowawa as members.
Among others, Kumwenda is is Chairman of NBS Bank Plc and Managing Director and Executive Director at NICO Holdings Plc, Chairman for NICO Insurance Zambia Ltd. (a subsidiary of NICO Holdings Plc).
He is also Associate Member at Chartered Insurance Institute and on the board of six other companies.
Besides the four, other members of the MRA Board are Secretary to the Treasury, Secretary for Trade, Secretary for Industry and the RBM Governor.
The new RBM board is chaired by the Governor Dr. Wilson Banda as provided in Section 13 of the RBM Act. The arrangement to have central bank governors chair their own boards is regarded as the best practice worldwide.
Other members of the RBM Board include deputy governors, Secretary to the Treasury, Randson Philimon Mwadiwa, retired Supreme Court judge Elton Singini, Nimia Kazimbi Mzembe, Mirriam Wemba and Maxwell Mkwezalamba.

Not yet to appreciate the appointments, I will do so after I see how they will deliver, I will give them 12 solid months to appreciate them.
Apapa MRA insurer will be NICO, MRA banker will be NBS Bank ……………………. FDH bank get prepared !
No southerner zoona?
Dr. Mkwezalamba is a person of highest integrity and he mixes well with people. I just like the guy. He is not selfish and those that have worked with him know this. He has been a commissioner at African Union and he was recently with IMF in New York. He cannot just be dumped like that. Malawi needs such people to move ahead and not the thieves that APM put in such organizations.
Iwe IMF is in Washington DC not za New York zakozo. But I agree with you 100 percent. Mkwezalamba was supposed to be minister of Finance or Reserve Bank Governor. He is a top notch guy, you cant just give him a small post ya u Board member ku reserve bank.
Idiot what do u mean nico is for mcp?the president has to be applauded for appointing professionals unlike APM who was even appointing jomo as board member. Zayamba bwino.
So Mulusu is recommending his boys so that they steal together. That aside this business of hiring people from retirement should stop. Wilson Banda has been hired from retirement replacing young Dalitso. That is very stupid. Bizwick also is another old dude,Katsonga another old woman. Mukamangotenga nkhalambazi ana adzaphunzira kuti ntchito. We wanted to remove APM because of old age and we are hiring back these grannies to run the affairs of this country.
And he was a thief too.
Running the government is not a learning session. The job is to deliver nor to learn. Go to a University if
you want to learn.
We NEVER wanted to remove APM because of old age but rather nepotism, tribalism, poor leadership, incompetence etc
Exact my point. Grannies leave them to retire. No need to recycle professionals. They did their part. Let us do our part as young leaders
point taken
Congratulations to Lincon Bailey, the malawian of Jamaican Heritage and a business partner for Gaffar’s mining establishment in the North. Gaffar is as untouchable as the Mias. Thats why he too has been able to influence the appointment of his business partner to the board of MRA. Congrats to Finance Minister Felix Mlusu for bringing NICO on board. Wilson Banda, the new Givernor; BIZIwick at MRA, VIZENGE KUMWENDA, NIZIA MZEMBE from NBS
Second time to hear some one from Nico holding high position it seems there is something government and Nico.
Please don’t be angry with me ,it’s only that
Zimayamba kundipasa mafunso kuti zisinthadi?
Kkkkkk remember NICO stands for
National insurance company
Malawi has 51% shares, therefore government has insterest in NICO.
Finance minister mlusu and MRA board chair vizenge are buddies the more things change the more they stay the same 😡😡😡
Nico is for mcp I knew it.
Worryless about politics, it’s better you appoint only Nico as an MCP member, but during DPP regime all in palastatals were from DPP party. So, no problem with Nico appointment bro. You wanted Dausis, Mchachas and Ben Phiris??
You don’t say! How do you come to this conclusion?
