Govt sets aside money to bring back abused Malawian women in Kuwait
Minister of Foreign Affairs Francis Kasaira has disclosed that the government has finally set aside some money to bring back to Malawi some women who are believed to have been trafficked to Kuwait some months ago.
Kasaira was speaking in parliament when he was defending a K3 billion vote for his ministry.
He said the 28 women will be flown in soon after they were rescued by the Malawi embassy in Kuwait from abusive work places.
“We have indeed identfied resources for their repatriation back to Malawi,” said Kasaira without saying when exactly they are supposed to jet in and how much the government will spending for the unbudgetted exercise.
However, Kasaira said most women were found with no passports because their employers had confisticated them.
He said they were all rescued and are now in a safe house being taken care of by Malawi Foreign office in Kuwait.
