Grief as Mutharika body arrives in Blantyre: Pictures
At exactly 3:30 in the afternoon on Thursday, late president Bingu wa Mutharika’s remains arrived at Chileka Airport in the commercial capital Blantyre amid wailing from thousand Malawians especially DPP diehards.
Sombre music and sad faces could be seen everywhere as Blantyre people wanted to have a glance at Mutharika’s gold casket draped in a Malawian flag.

His successor Her Excellency Joyce Banda led the retinue of mourners, including a number of government officials, who received the coffin at the airport.
After a short prayer by Archbishop Tarcizius Ziyaye, Mutharika’s body was taken to Sanjika Palace where President Banda will lead the Malawi nation in viewing the body from Friday.
Others lined the airport road to pay respects as the cortege passed. Some wore T-shirts bearing Mutharika’s portrait.
Mutharika suffered a cardiac arrest on April 5. He died at State House at the age of 78.
