A police officer operating from National Police Headquarters at Area 30 in Lilongwe shot himself dead in his house on Sunday April 13, 2014.
National Police spokesperson, Rhoda Manjolo, identified the deceased as 46 year old Assistant Supt. Charles Saiwa.
Saiwa blasted himself in the chest in what residents are gossiping it was after being heartbroken.
But police spokeswoman said there was no information of troubled relationship and “it is not clear yet what might have caused the suicide.”
Manjolo said police suspect the cop used a shot gun, however the could not get the rifle.
She termed the incident as a loss to the Police Service, urging other officers to avoid taking such drastic measures when they are faced with domestic challenges.
According to the police publicist, Saiwa was a Ngoni who hailed from Saiwa Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Ganya in Ntcheu district.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
