Herbalist Yakobe Phiri donates to Mchinji Hospital

As one way of showing commitment to charity work, Mchinji female herbalist, Dr. Yakobe Phiri on Wednesday donated assorted items to Mchinji district hospital worth K150,000 in all wards.

Mchinji Hospital in dire need

In her remarks, Dr.Yakobe Phiri said the initiative has come with an aim to help the needy patients saying most of them face challenges because they do not get help from their relatives.

She has however, advised her fellow traditional healers and other well wishers to support the patients because the hospital currently is serving thousands of people but there is still a gap needed to be filled.

“I receive so many customers but they pay me after helping them so today, I have come to pay back what they have been doing to me. I am a traditional healer based at Mchinji boma, I heal different diseases except HIV and Aids,” she said.

Receiving the donation on behalf of Mchinji district health officer, health promotion officer, Frank Kaphaso commended Dr. Phiri for the donation saying it was a relief because most of the patients at the hospital face different challenges like lack of soap, salt and sugar among others.

He said it is very rare to see traditional healers in the country coming to help the needy patients and he has since asked other well wishers to follow the example demonstrated by Phiri.

“You know the hospital does not receive enough funding to carter for everyone, so the donation like soap will help promote hygiene at this institution,” he said.

Apart from donating assorted items at the hospital, the traditional healer also went on to Mchinji Mountain to pay sacrifice to her spiritual gods.
