High Court discharges 9 in Neno gruesome murders case

The High Court in Blantyre has discharged nine out of 12 suspects in the infamous Neno gruesome elders murder case when four elderly people were killed on suspicion they killed to death a girl through magic.

Judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula said the discharging of the nine follows an application by the state.

“The state applied to the court to discharge the nine because of lack of evidence and the court discharged them,” he said.

He said the remaining three would appear in court on June 8, 2017.

The four elderly persons; Eliza Kanjete, 86, Elenefa Kanjete, 76, Byson Kanjete, 73 and another 69 year old granny were killed by a mob, the killings that shocked the nation, on suspicion that they sent a lightning through magic that killed a 17 year old girl at night.

The elderly persons were killed in January, 2016.

Mvula said the murder case has dragged because of police investigations.
