A man believed to have been suffering from HIV and AIDs on Thursday morning was found dead at an abandoned building near Lilongwe bridge.
Lilongwe police spokesperson, Ramsey Mushani identified the person as Jackson Kachikuta Mwase.
“We received reports this morning [Thursday] that a man is lying dead at an abandoned building near Lilongwe bridge.
“It is believed that the person has been sick for some time with HIV/Aids according to his health passport book,” said Mushani.
The police publicist added: “In his health passport book, it shows that Jackson was diagnosed with HIV and Tuberculosis on 21 January this year and that he was put on Anti Retroviral ( ARV) treatment.”
Ishmael Daudi, Member of community policing who also identified the dead person said Mwase has been refraining from taking his ARV’s such that he was drinking and smoking excessively.
“He was diagnosed HIV positive and started receiving ARV’s. As you know, when one is on ARV’s it is advised to refrain from excessive beer drinking and smoking. Jackson did not adhere to this such that he used to drinking and smoking like nobody’s business,” said Daudi.
He added: “Mwase started taking the medication day before he died.”
Mwase, before he died, looked weak and hungry. The police found Mwase already dead with a bottle of ARV’s besides him.
Meanwhile, remains of Mwase have been taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital for postmortem.
