A 50-year-old pastor, Philip Palibe Ndipo is in police custody for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old last week Wednesday.
Ndipo, according to police, defiled a standard three pupil (name withheld) at Kalindira village in the district.
The suspect is a pastor of New Covenant Assemblies of God Church.
“On this day, the victim was alone at home while her mother was away drawing water at a borehole. The suspect, who is also a close neighbor to the family, took advantage of the situation to commit the offence,” Ntcheu police Public Relations Officer, Hastings Chigalu told Nyasa Times.
“On return from the borehole, the mother found the girl crying uncontrollably.
When asked, the girl revealed the incident and the name of the pastor. Neighbors advised the victim’s mother to take up the matter with Kandewu police unit who later referred them to Kandewu Health Centre.”
Medical examination results confirmed that the girl was indeed defiled. she had bruises on her private parts.
The victim was also treated for other sexual transmitted diseases.
Members of the community were the one who arrested the suspect and handed him over to Kandewu Police Unit where he is currently under custody.
Pastor Ndipo who hails from Kalindira village, Traditional Authority Njolomole, Ntcheu will appear in court soon on defilement charges under Section 138 of the Penal Code.
