House turns into stitches as Speaker calls Chidanti ‘Honourable Kaloswe’

Malawi  Parliament had its own rare light moments on Thursday when Speaker Richard Msowoya called the parliamentary committee on Agriculture Joseph Chidanti Malunga as ‘Honourable Kaloswe’.

MP Chidanti Malunga: Nicknamed Kaloswe

The members of parliament went in stitches soon after Msowoya identified Malunga as ‘Honourable Kaloswe ‘when the legislator was about to present a report on food situation in the country.

Malunga just laughed off the matter and went into serious business of presenting the report.

He said the committee physically went to most parts of the country.

State produce trader Admarc dumped Kaloswe Commuter and Courier  in a deal to provide 100 metric tonnes of maize from Zambia.

Admarc CEO Foster Mulumbe says Kaloswe did not have the maize and demanded money upfront before the maize was bought.

However, Kaloswe said it had the maize and capacity and has threatened to sue Admarc for breach of contract.

The issue has caused a huge political storm in the country which is threatening the political life of Agricuture minister George Chaponda.

Chaponda and Mulumbe are accused of suspicious dealings in the procurement of the maize.

The two have denied any wrong doing.

However on Wednesday Chaponda gave a contradictory statement on whether he knew Kaloswe or not.

Initially he said he never knew anything about Kaloswe but later he conceded he knew and dealt with Kaloswe.

Malunga has since been nick named ‘Kaloswe’ by fellow members of parliament.
