Husband hacked to death by ‘jealous’ wife in Malawi gruesome murder
In what could be termed as one of the most gruesome murders in recent times, a 21 year old woman in Nkhata Bay district has hacked her husband to death with an axe for being jealousy over the husband’s alleged extra marital affair.
The incident according to Nkhata Bay district Police spokesman sergeant Ignatius Essau happened on Saturday night when the husband was fast asleep.
“It was on Saturday when the deceased Chifundo Banda, 32, and his wife Ireen Filimon picked a quarrel after the wife accused the husband of having an extra marital affai,” said the police spokesman.
“After the wife confronted the deceased over the alleged extra marital affair, it is alleged that he slapped her on the face and the wife went outside the house where she stayed for a long time without returning to bed.
“At this moment, the deceased fell asleep and the wife came in the bedroom armed with an axe and stabbed her husband on the forehead and on the throat using a suspected sharp object. She further went on to slice private parts of the deceased which led to loss of a lot of blood,” explained Esau.
After realizing that the husband was dead on the spot, the wife started crying uncontrollably which awoke some neighbours who then were told by the wife that robbers had killed her husband.
“It’s the neighbours that informed the police of the incident and at first when we questioned the wife on what happened she alleged that robbers had invaded the house and were the ones who stabbed her husband to death.
“But after further questioning, the accused started to confess that she was the one who killed her husband after picking a quarrel over the husband’s alleged extra marital affair,” said Esau.
Postmortem results conducted at the district hospital revealed that the husbanda died because of excessive loss of blood.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will soon be taken to court to answer murder charges whose maximum sentence is life imprisonment.
Both the deceased and suspect hail from Kachapila village, Traditional Authority Malenga in Ntchisi district.
