Narrating her ordeal to the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati when she visited her on Friday at Mchinji District Hospital, Linda said her husband who openly smoked Marijuana (chamba) asked her to go to a satanic church nearGuillime in the district but she refused.

Linda also revealed that on many occasions the husband could tie her legs and hands and beat her throughout the night while her mother in-law listened in the other room and did nothing.

She alleged Yasini and his mother were into Chamba selling business and that is what brought food to their table.

Linda who looks young than her age, also revealed how she got married to her husband, saying on January 26,this year she met the man who said he loved her and asked her to follow him to his house.

“I followed him yet, I did not know him and I did not tell my parents, when we reached his house he told me he wanted to marry me and I accepted and I never went back to my parents’ house despite their efforts to make me return home,’’ narrated Linda a standard seven drop out.

She said she suspected Yasini used charms to lure her into marriage, because she did not understand how she could follow a man she never met before and she was forced to wear some charms in her waist (Zithumwa) every day at their marital home.

Linda also narrated that after being beaten by her husband leading to serious injuries, she was taken to a local witch doctor and stayed for ten days where the situation worsened and the witchdoctor alerted the police who arrested Yasini.

Meanwhile investigations into the life of Yasini by the Mchinji District Social Welfare Office and Mchinji Police has revealed that 20 year old Yasini has married eight times and the former wives were all victims of domestic violence.

Yasini is also said to have committed a cattle rustling crime but the case was solved by the concerned parties. He is on remand at Maula Prison in Lilongwe pending trial, after being charged with unlawful wounding.

Is there a sign of poverty here? Do you mean if people are poor enter into unlaw ful weddings. No. There are girls who come from well to do people but they stay at Mbwandilo. The poor families if at all planning to wed they do what is necessary to do. But this thing of Lind is a wich doing to this devil man

  4. Mr. Yasin is just exactly as my son-law who also takes Marijuana and as well as doing business in Mkanda. What this young girl went through my daughter also is facing the same. She is denied to speak to me on phone and any other means of communication. In most cases she is beaten for no apparent reason.

John Yasini no one may condone your conduct as it is inhuman as you have violated right to this young lady and you will face the LAW and the charges will be meted out to you

  8. Yes i can say that ‘Let the law take its course’ but the victim also must be behind the bar. We shouldn’t be forsaked with this illiterate issue. If she is saying tha the man used the charm. Where waz she since january? After being betean the whole night why didn’t she take the matter to any near police station? I see she want money from Akweni.

  11. Why use the word witch doctor as if there are witches in Malawi? Remember, you may be sued for that. There are no witches in Malawi as I am told the constitution protects all witches and wizards. The constitution of Malawi allows all witches and wizards to practice freely without any interference. The constitution of Malawi condemns and puts to jail all who say there is witch craft in Malawi. Foolish fools.

  12. And yet some of you are busy pushing for legalisation of chamba. Its sad that Police in places like Mpemba are busy conniving with Rastas to sell confiscated chamba or turn a blind eye and share in the proceeds. No wonder the upsurge of crime. Just go to the Blantyre flee market.. Its openly sold now and its normal to meet blòody eyed men smelling chamba by the Police container near the bus stands. This country is quickly turning into a failed state. Muthawiretu zisanafike povuta.

  13. They are both very chain smokers. Ziliponso zomatsatira munthu wosamdziwa bwino mpaka bank a Lero? Akumanenatu anthu kuti chamber nchoipa kwa azimayi hee!!!!

  14. This youngman needs to be sentenced to spend the rest of his LIFE IN PRISON because he is a threat to others’ life. How could he do such a barbaric act to his wife whom he used to sleep with on one mphasa? No wonder at 20 he has already done with 8 wives,he is very stupid. If I was a brother to Linda I would have given him a lesson.

  15. God,bless the witch doctor 4 reporting to Police. Am made to believe that charms were @ work,hw cud she deny to return on parents request while leaving in such stuation?

  16. Cant we be modern we Malawians, modernism is related with development and perhaps then when we give up this witchcraft superstition craps then we can catch up with the rest of the world. What is this ?

  17. Mayi ameneyi ngakhale kulimba mtimako wachamba ngati ameneyi azikumnya usiku onse iwe osachoka umadikila akuvulaze chitsilu cha mzimayi. Ngakhale maonekedwe pafotopa chikuoneka chilombo.iwe ndiye kukhala nacho nyumba .lako la 40 linakwana ukumbuke mawu akulu aja amati akoma akagonela.mwina usintha style ya moyo wako.

  18. Mmmm chabwino mwamunayu ndi oipa Koma mkaziyu asanamizire ngati ndi ka innocent victim. Tiakazi totere ife tatichindachinda pa town. Tiakazi toti watidziwa pano, nkutichinda 1 hour later. It’s not charms- ndi nyere.

  19. Whilst the witch doctor eventually did the right thing, 10 days was too long for him to report to police or take the woman to hospital. Those wounds were life threatening and are still life threatening should they not respond to treatment or if they flare up again.

  20. There is no explanation that can justify the husbands action. This is barbaric and he has to be punished severely for others to get lessons from him.

  21. Timkanena anathera musiizi mkaziyu ndikusamvera makolo komwe kwamupweteketsa, kukumana pamsewu lero, lero lomwe banja. Ameyu alindimatenda achisika komamso nyele. Tsoka sasimba koma uyu wasimba. Timphunzilepo kanthu,YEHOVA MULUNGU alinaye asataye mtima.

  22. This is the problem of girls of nowadays. They rush for marriage without thinking of the consequences. Your parents tried to get you out of the illegal marriage but you refused

  23. Wife battering is bad and uncivilized. While at it, ana a masiku ano ife tanyanya kusamvera makolo. Pamene makolo anthu ankayamba afufuza za amene tifuna timange naye banja sikuti anali opusa. Koma ife tikufuna timeze osatafuna. “Mtsinje wa tinkanena udathera msiizi” We need to be careful when dropping off some cultural norms. Culture is an adaptation ie it’s a survival tactic based on the context of the environment a particular people live. According to her own narrative she just followed someone without even taken time for marriage formalities. Poor girl you listened to your heart more than your brain. Now see, you have made a name for wrong reasons. Get well soon!

  24. Thumbs up for the witch doctor. He is a rare breed of them coz witch doctors are too good at concealing stupidities but he didn’t and alerted the Police. Apatsidwe mphatso to excel his morale.
    Komanso mkaziyu ndi hule. Hahahahaha.

  25. Mkazi wabodza iwe satanic yakuti? Ukunena wekha kuti unamusatira mamuna kwawo usakumudziwa si uhule umenewo? Ukunamizira kuti anakupangira mankhwala. Nkhani ndiyoti anakupeza ukunyengesa basi. Vuto ndiloti anakulanga kwambiri amayenera kungokusiya.
