I’m honourable Kalindo not Winiko, says legislature-elect

Politician-cum-comedian Bon Kalindo, whose comic name is Winiko, has said he is delighted to be dully declared winner of Mulanje South Constituency on Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ticket.

Kalindi is among 50 DPP members who have been elected as Members of Parliament in the May 20 tripartite elections.

“It was a tough contest but finally people gave me the nod. I am grateful,” he said.

Kalindo said his going to parliament is no a comedy or jokes but serious business “to serve my constituency.”

“I am honourable Bon Kalindo member of parliament. I will not be a comedian in the House under the name of Winiko, It is serious business,” he said.

Kalindo is also deputy spokesman of DPP.

Some notable newly elected lawmakers include gospel singer Allan Ngumuya (Independent), musician Lucius Banda (UDF), former information minister Patricia Kaliati (DPP) and her husband Angie Dishon Kaliati (DPP) and Frank Mwenefumbo (Independent).

Roy Kachale, son to outgoing president Joyce Banda, and outspoken Kamlepo Kalua have also won.
