Immigration officers arrested for forgery of FDH bank payment receipts: Granted bail

An Immigration Officer based at the Department of Immigration Offices in Blantyre was arrested together with his accomplice for forgery.

Blantyre Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Elizabeth Divala said the officer Chanduwira Chidothe,39 and Bettie Chikara, 28, were suspected to have forged business payment receipts amounting to US350 dollars (approximately K260, 000).

She explained: “The two forged a First Discount House (FDH), bank receipt which has totally different features from the original receipt of FDH bank.”

Chidothe and Chikara were arrested and detained on March 9, 2017 after Fiscal Police’s investigations on the matter and the police managed to recover the forged receipt after which the matter was taken to court.

Presiding over the case on March 13, 2017, First Grade Magistrate, Diana Mangwana granted the two bail upon paying K50, 000.

Chanduwira Chidothe hails from Traditional Authority (TA) Njema in Mulanje and Bettie Chikara, an Agent at Immigration Office hails from Makwangwala Village in Ntcheu District.
