Information and Communications Technology Association of Malawi calls on members to register

Information and Communications Technology Association of Malawi (ICTAM) has called on ICT students, professionals and companies to acquire membership cards.

New members: Lilongwe Water Board’s Dina Chiume and Kazembe Saidi showcase their membership cards.

According to ICTAM’s President, Wisely Phiri, they have decided to institute membership cards to keep track of its members.

The development follows the successful staging of the Innovations Forum last year at Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi where local ICT experts exhibited their ICT related products.

Phiri said the membership cards have been grouped into three categories to cater for students, professionals and corporate members.

“We are appealing to companies to register as corporate members and have their ICT professionals be part of the project. Registration forms can be received by emailing [email protected] or [email protected],”  said he.

Phiri said the cards will also guarantee companies that its members subscribe to ICTAM’s professional code of conduct.

“As ICTAM we encourage our members to work with highest integrity. Therefore we will ensure that members abide to our code of conduct,” said Phiri.

The ICTAM boss added that the introduction of membership cards, will enable companies to consult from the association on the credibility of ICT individuals or organizations.

He also disclosed that the cards have links to IQR (Individual Qualification Records) and are valid for one year.

“This means the cards can be renewed every year,” said he.

Phiri said the cost of registration for each ICT student is at K10,000 with individual professionals paying K50,000 each. He added that corporate membership is worthy K250,000 and individuals under professionals can register at K25,000 each.

There is a lot of conflict of interest in this, ICTAM should be headed by a secretariat not someone who runs an IT firm, K250 000 for what benefit?
