Jailed 2 years for sex assault on mentally unstable girl
Limbe Dalton court on Thursday convicted and sentenced to 24 months (two years) in jail Madalitso Elaton Ndandala, a shoe repair in Zingwangwa Township, Blantyre for abducting and defiling an eight-year old mentally unstable girl.
Ndandala, 19-years old and is well known as ‘Jungle man’, is said to have abducted and sexualy attacked the girl (name withheld) on the new year’s eve of 2011 after taking advantage of her condition.
The girl was noted missing by her parents on December 31, 2010 and according information presented in court, she was found loitering around Zingwangwa market two days later.
And Police prosecutor Elton Chakhaza told the court earlier that during the search the parents were alerted by well-wishers that she was being kept by ‘jungle man’ who resides in the same township.
“When she was asked after she reappeared two days later, she disclosed that she was at jungle man’s house. And when the parents did a check on her they noticed that she was defiled and they immediately reported the matter to Chilobwe police who advised them to take her for medical examination,” Chakhaza said.
Medical report from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) tendered in court confirmed that the girl was indeed defiled.
Ndandala who pleaded not guilty to the offence, in mitigation asked for leniency since he is an orphan.
His sentence runs from the date of arrest, meaning that he will only serve few months of the given jail term as he has been on remand at Chichiri prison since his arrest.
