Jailed 9 months for illegal possession of a shot gun

Mkukula First Grade Magistrate court on Monday sentenced Chimwanza Chikhosi to nine months imprisonment with hard labour for being found in possession of a fire arm without license which is contrary to section 1 (a) of fire arms Act.

Kanengo police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Salome Chibwana said police received a tip from the general public that Chikhosi was possessing a fire arm without a license which is also giving pressure to the people living surrounding the area he was staying.

“The police was tipped by well wishers from where Chikhosi stays that he (Chikhosi) possessed a gun. The police went to investigate and indeed found the gun with him,” Chibwana said.justice

She added: “when we quizzed him for a license and where he got the gun from, he said, he got it from a friend Hand Nsawanga. Nsawanga as well failed to produce a license for the gun, thus First Grade Magistrate Chidima Phiri ruled them guilty.

She further said that Chidima Phiri asked the two to pay a fine of K10, 000 each and serve the nine months IHL.

According to Chibwana the accused was found with a shot gun with four live bullets and two used bullets.

Chimwanza Chikhosi, 60, hails from Chikhosi Village Traditional Authority Chimutu in Lilongwe while Hand Nsawanga 39 hails from Pidi Village in Traditional Authority Chimutu the same district.
