JB meets Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed, returns home

President Joyce Banda returns home Friday from a four-day official trip to Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Dubai abroad during which she undertook a number of official engagements.

On Thursday, the Malawi leader met His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai in Al Maroom, Dubai.

Her visit to Dubai and her meeting with His Highness was extremely important towards exploring cooperation opportunities between Malawi and the UAE; between the Arab region and the African continent, according to Tusekele Mwanyongo, State House Press Officer.

The Government of Dubai thanked President Banda for the visit and said they looked forward to closer cooperation with Malawi.

Earlier, the President was hosted to a dinner by the Dubai Business Community, where she requested them to consider investing in Malawi.

During the middle east, President Banda was invited to and attended the third Africa-Arab Summit in Kuwait and the World Economic Forum’s Summit on the Global Agenda in Abu Dhabi .

The Arab-African Summit was organized by the Kuwait government with the aim of trying to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relationships between the Arab world and the African continent.

Banda attended  the summit in her capacity as Chair of SADC and Head of State of the Malawi Government.
