JB opens Majete epicenter, maternity unit in Chikhwawa
President Joyce Banda on Wednesday inaugurated the Majete 1 Epicenter and the Maternity Unit of The Hunger Project Malawi in Chikhwawa in which the Joyce Banda Foundation donated equipment worth K12 million (about $30 000) to the facility.
The Malawi leader commended the effective partnership between and among the private sector, public sector, and non-profit sector on how it is transforming Malawi.
“Today, we have witnessed for ourselves how a comprehensive and holistic approach to development by The Hunger Project can transform villages.
“Here at Majete 1 Epicentre, 21 villages have been targeted for such holistic approach. This project can be replicated in other areas as a strategy to achieving my government’s policy on poverty reduction.
“This maternity unit is 25 kilometres to the next clinic which is in Mwanza. This facility will go a long way in providing Safe Motherhood services to the people of T/A Chapananga,” said the President.
The financial resources, which The Hunger Project Malawi used to implement the work in the area, came from African Villages Foundation of The Netherlands.
