JB pledges to construct children and cancer hospital in Lilongwe

President Joyce Banda has assured people in Lilongwe of the construction of a huge hospital to cater for children at Kamuzu Central Hospital premises.

Banda disclosed the plans at a rally she held at Kalambo School ground on Monday during a whistle stop tour she conducted in the city.

The hospital will be the first to be constructed in Southern Africa which is going to cater special treatment to children.

The President said she does not like seeing people struggle soliciting money to travel to South Africa or Tanzania for treatment.

“We are also going to build a Cancer Hospital in order to be treating our patients here in Malawi; we do not need to travel outside for treatment because it is possible to have such facilities here in the country,” Banda explained, adding that many Malawians cannot manage to cover their expenses and treatment abroad.

There have been cases whereby Malawians have failed to travel outside the country to receive treatment that our hospitals do not offer due to lack of funds.

President Banda mentioned that donors were ready to finance the construction of the hospital in the Capital City, Lilongwe.

The President promised people in Area 24, Gwenya School ground that her Government will build a health center in the area in order to reduce problems of transport and congestion at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

Ine ndi wa pompo-pompo (I don’t hesitate when doing development, I deliver instantly) since the shadow MP asked me for a hospital, I assure you that a health center will be built here,” Banda assuredly said.

According to the Peoples’ Party manifesto; they highlighted to improve health sector by constructing district hospitals and rehabilitation of dilapidated hospitals and health centers across the country.
