JB vows to continue crackdown on corrupt barons: Cites biblical Nehemiah

President Joyce Banda has vowed that she will continue to fight corruption by arresting all those involved in the malpractice.

Banda said she will leave no stone unturned in her pursuit to fight corruption, saying when she inherited government from the DPP regime, K92 billion had already been stolen.

“As I am  speaking to you, I have submitted an audit report to the missing K92 billion together with the K8 billion cash gate scam to parliament for discussion,” she said, adding that she wants Malawians to know where the money went.

President Banda was speaking at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday during the launch of People’s Party Campaign in the Northern Region.

She warned that she will continue to arrest anyone involved in corrupt practices.

Ndipitiliza kukumangani, [I will continue to arrest u],” President Banda warned, adding “I want Malawians to know there is no other president who arrested corrupt people like I do.”

President Banda started her speech by quoting a biblical story of Nehemiah found in the Book of Nehemiah, chapters one to five.

This is where Nehemiah was concerned after learning that the remnants were left in captivity, great affliction and reproach in the province. The walls of Jerusalem were also broken down so he decided on a mission to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the walls.

President Banda told the gathering that just like biblical Nehemiah who embarked on rebuilding the walls, she also embarked on the same when she took over government from DPP.

Apparently, the president was referring to the fuel and forex shortages that characterized the country during the reign of her predecessor late Dr Bingu wa Mutharika in his last days.
