Jide Mbandambanda register second hat-trick: Malawi’s TNM Super League

Blantyre United’s Jide Mbandambanda was toast of the day last Saturday when he scored a hat-trick when he steered his team to a 3-3 draw with Azam Tigers in the 2017 TNM Super League game played at MDC Stadium.

He joins Red Lions’ sniper Innocent Bokosi, who was the first to register a hat-trick when the first leaders of the log table beat promoted side Blantyre United 4-1 at Zomba Community Centre last month.

Going into Week 8 of the 2017 season, Red Lions still lead the table with 12 points from six games but they share points with Mighty Wanderers, who have played four games so far.

The Nomads were on the road last weekend where they came back with all six points from two games to surge forward from position nine to two. They first beat Dwangwa United 1-0 at Chitowe on Saturday before walloping Mafco 3-0 the following day.

Following their 0-1 loss to Blue Eagles on Saturday and drawing 0-0 with promoted side Masters Security, Bullets still occupy their third position while Wizards, who were on position last week have been pushed to 4th.

The leaders Red Lions, who were on bye last weekend, are on the road this weekend to fulfil two assignments in the Central Region — against Silver Strikers at Civo Stadium on Saturday and against Civil Sporting at the same venue the following day.

Civil Sporting Club is a merge between Epac FC and Civo United. Civo United  got demoted last season while Epac were 11th. The new team are currently on position 14 with a meagre four points from six games of one win one draw and four losses.

They are a far cry in terms of performance as compared to promoted side Masters Security who are 11th with eight points after seven games of two wins, three losses and two draws — one against giants Nyasa Big Bullets last weekend.

Third-placed Nyasa Big Bullets date 4th-placed Wizards FC at Kalulu Stadium on Sunday while 5th-placed Moyale date defending champions Kamuzu Barracks at Nankhaka on Sunday.

Kamuzu Barracks are a distant 12th position with five points from five games of a single win, two draws and two losses.
