The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz show tickets have been sold as  American Grammy Award winning jazz master Earl Klugh   will headline this year’s concert on September 21 in Lilongwe.

Earl Klugh   is expected in the country on Thursday.

In an interview with Nyasa Times, Standard Bank Marketing Manager Chimwemwe Matonga said as of Monday, all the 1800 tickets had been bought.

The jass maestro is expected to perform alongside Malawi’s own sensational jazz artist Peter Mawanga at Bingu International Conference Center.

“Everything is set and Earl Klugh is expected to arrive through the Kamuzu International Airport at around 12 noon,” said Matonga

He said on Friday, the singer is expected to join Standard Bank in its Social Corporate Responsibilities activities at the Music Crossroads head office in Area 23 where he will conduct music sessions.

Matonga said with enough time, the America based Klugh may record a song with the youthful band.

On the prospects of increasing the number of tickets on the market following the huge response from the general
public, he said the bank would want to give enough space to those who have paid to enjoy the music.

“We are taking into consideration security issues, we don’t want to have a situation where we should accommodate a lot of people than the capacity. We made sure to stick to that and we would want our customers to have enough space to enjoy as it will be like a family outing,” he said.

Last year, Standard Bank hosted South Africa’s Zahara at the same venue who performed alongside veteran artist Wambali Mkandawire.

Matonga said by popular demand, customers have been nominating Earl Klugh internally through Standard Bank’s branch network and that the bank has granted their wish.

Joy of Jazz is a thematic jazz festival owned and sponsored by the Standard Bank group. It takes place annually in August.

Born on September 16 1953 in Detroit, Michigan, Earl Klugh is a jazz fusion guitarist and composer. He has collaborated with the likes of Bob James, George Benson and Roberta Flack.

He has won several grammies and sold millions of records and CDs.
