Joyce Banda hold talks with Ghana President Mahama in Accra
Malawi’s former president Joyce Banda on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 met Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama at State House in Accra, Ghana where they held talks.
Banda is in Ghana where among other engagements, she attended activities marking the 4th anniversary of the death of former President Professor John Evans Atta Mills who died, suddenly, in office on July 24, 2012.
On Monday, July 24, 2016, Banda she delivered the 4th John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Lecture at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Main Auditorium in Ghana.
Banda and Ghana’s President, Dramani Mahama, earlier the same day, officially commissioned the ‘John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library’ in Cape Coast in the late President’s honour.
On Sunday, July 24, former Malawi president laid a wreath at the tomb of Professor John Evans Atta Mills at the Asomdwee Park in the capital, Accra.
“I came here at the invitation of the national organizing committee of the Atta Mills memorial. I was greatly humbled to be part of this historic event. But my trip could not have been complete without meeting the President to personally console the people of Ghana through him,” said Banda after meeting President Mahama.
The former Head of State also said she discussed with President Mahama “matters of common interest”.
“I was greatly honoured to meet His Excellency President Mahama; I am extremely humbled that he found time to meet me,” she said.
During the Commemorative Lecture, former president Banda hailed the late Professor John Atta Mills as was a man of peace and that it is not surprising, therefore, that the people of Ghana, called him ‘Asomdwee Hen’ meaning ‘the Prince of Peace’.
“I am reliably informed that this is one of the highest honours to be conferred upon an African leader by his people. Prof. Atta-Mills simply loved his people and he did everything humanly possible to give his people peace for a simple reason that he knew that peace is one priceless gift that God gave us.
“His inclusivity policies contributed to unity, integration and stability of not only Ghana but also the ECOWAS region and Africa as a whole,” she said.

Looks like the visit was mostly “PRIVATE”. And Nyasa in West Africa commemoration are mostly celebrations. HOW CAN JOYCE BANDA BE CONSOLING GHANIAN PEOPLE AFTER 4 YEARS?? Eeeeeish. That’s abit too late.
