Joyce Banda throws party for Zomba youth: Campaign for PP

MalawiPresident Joyce Banda treated over 3,000 youths and vendors drawn from Zomba City to a New Year’s Party at Zomba State House.

The number of people that entered the Statehouse outnumbered those that were registered as invited ones because there were cues on the gates which prompted the State President to let in all that came.

In her speech, the President said it has been her resolve to celebrate New Year every year in her home district Zomba as she valued the support that the people have offered her over the year.

She said she would make sure that even those that were not invited should eat and get away with a bag of flour at the end.

“I started making such parties every new year for the people of Zomba from 2002,” said President Banda, adding:“Now it’s almost a decade. I believe in cerebrating with others. I will make sure everybody gets the food and goes home happily.”

The gathering included People’s Party officials, Members of Parliament, vendors from Zomba City, ordinary youth and the community at large.

“Let us forget about 2012 the year which only God knows how things happened because it was a hard one and we should enter the New Year with love, hope and unity,” President Banda said.

The Malawi leader took the opportunity of the party to drum support for her governing People’s Party ahead of next year’s general eelctions.

President Banda said the large turnout of the people that patronized the party was an indication the party was popular in the eastern region.

She called on people to support her and the PP to ensure it wins the elections due May, 2014.

People’s Party publicity secretary, Hophmally Makande said the party was the first of its kind for the people in the district to go and fete at the State House.

He called on PP cohorts to strengthen their party in the New Year in order to win the 2014 elections under the leadership of president Banda.
